Hi=)

Hey yall, my name is Rachael B and im an English major at Kennesaw State. This is my second year here and i love it! Im in a sorority here at ksu and i couldnt be happier. Im very involved on this campus and participate in sports here. I play soccer on just a fun team, not the ksu soccer team, i do it just to play and have fun. The reason i choose to be an english major is because i love reading and writing. At first i wanted to be a high school teacher, the that evolved into being a professor. The reason i want to teach is to help students see the true meaning of english, its not all reading old books and writing book reports. I want my students to see how fun reading can really be and how its a different world. At first my parents did not want me to teach because they thought it was an easy way out. Its not that at all to me, its my passion. Eventually my parents came to terms with it and now they are just happy i am doing something that i am going to love for the rest of my life. In America i think that reading books are changing. To me, i really think its because of Harry Potter and Twilight. These series have made girls and boys all around the world start to read more. They really brought books back to life, this, of course, being my own opinion. Once i graduate from Ksu i plan on going to graduate school. I would love to get my masters in English and then finally teach!

  1. Hi Rachel,
my name is Mirka, and I really agree with your opinion about the books, though i haven't read them. I think, even though these genre is quite out of the real life, the people just love it. They can use their imagination, escape from every day life. I find it pretty good to read books. me personaly, I usually suffer when I am to read something obligatory for the school. the idea that something is obligatory give me the pression, quite funny, I know. as the time passes, I really like reading books, but I need to write notes on each page in order to remember better what the book is about. I think that if I read more, my memory will get beetter at this, so it will be easier too read and remeber what I've read. how do you see this point? have you ever had the same problem?
looking forward to hear from you soon ;)have a nice day
    Mirka

  2. Hey Mirka,
I do the exact same things when im reading. I always just highlight and write certain things to remind me about the text. What helped me when i read books is just to try and see it in your mind. Even if its not interesting (and most class book are not) i still try. I also try to go online and see if there is any movies or videos that could help me understand what is going on. I dont just rely on the video, i do read the book, but the movies still help a lot.

  3. Hello Rachel!
My name is Michaela and I really like your attitude to teaching English: "to help students see the true meaning of english, its not all reading old books and writing book reports. I want my students to see how fun reading can really be and how its a different world."
I believe that students need to see teacher's enthusiasm and then they will catch in some time.
    Best wishes,
    Michaela

  4. Hi Rachel,

I absolutely agree with you. Usually, I do the same, watch the film and then read a book or vice versa. I think that I have the lack of the imagination because I don't read enough books. We all know that it is easier to watch DVD, but still, I find the books really inspiring and even helping us to learn new vocab even in our mother tongue. Sometimes, there are some words even in Slovak that I haven't heard before. Our teacher told us that a person learns the word when he or she heard it at least seventeen times. Can you imagine? Then I should read all the books seventeen times each :D no, I'am just kidding. I would love to read more books, but when you have a lot of courses with lot of duties to do, you don 't even know where to start, the book is usually the last thing I think of. How do you deal with a lot of duties for school?

    I wish you a nice day ;)

  5. Mirka,
That a really awesome saying, kinda like the one if you want to remember things say it seven times to yourself or out loud. I guess its just like going back and making sure you found all the information. I know when i read a book again i always find new things that i never knew was there. Maybe i took a break reading or was talking to someone while reading. You never know whats going on. Then you read it again a few years later and see that you missed a whole lot of things! I see where your coming from with the imagination. DVDs dont always make books better. Even some movies out now i hate because the books were a whole world better! They way i deal with school has to be my agenda. Its my life. I have everything in there that i need to do and make sure that i get done. I dont watch a lot of TV and when i have free time i usually with my boyfriend. What helps us is we study together. And if im slow at work ill bring my school work and do it there, but my managers dont really care so i guess its where you work. What about you?

  6. Hi Rachel,
sometimes when i have a lot of thgs to do I write down the to-do list. I really need t feel good and highly motivated to do all the stuff. when I feel bad or sad I can't do anything even though I would really love to. Do you usually see al the dust and dity windows whn you ned to study? We were talking about this wit my friends, and almost all agreed that we need to cook, clean or do whtever apart of studying:D
and I have another small prob, when I need to study linguistics I really want to study literature at that time, or vice versa... crazy girl. do you know this kind of prob?
